Rock Haven Ranch is being built on the
95 acres owned by Christian Contender Ministries. The property has
been developed with over one mile of roads, two deep-water wells,
underground electricity, three septic systems, and fencing.
Currently there is a Multi-Purpose Building which serves as
offices, living quarters for the Executive Director’s family, and
a woodworking shop. There are also Rest Room facilities. Many
of the materials have been collected and construction of a Dining
Hall will begin in the Spring 2006. The next building needed
will be a large rest room with showers. When these two buildings are
completed the camp will be fully operational with the use of tents
for sleeping.
"A Journey Back In Time" will be in
store for the children who attend ROCK HAVEN
RANCH. The entire camp
will be set in the time period of the eighteen hundreds before the
Civil War. This was a time of Indian Villages, Pioneers,
Settlements, and Forts. This was also during the time of the
"Great Awakening" which was a religious revival that was
sweeping the nation. Thousands of people were turning back to God
and the Bible. The children will not only study God’s Word and
have a great time doing so, they will also experience the challenges
and sacrifices that were made by many to settle this great land.

Horsemanship Camp
July 19-24, 2009
Rock Haven is a "working" Horse Ranch.
All children who attend the camps have the opportunity to
participate in "daily chores." These chores involve all
aspects of ranch life: kitchen, garden, hay field, barn, and
animals. Children must be engaged in physical and mental work to be
successful—a valuable characteristic in all aspects of life. Since
many parents work full-time, this ministry fills the gap by
patiently teaching the children the value of a good work ethic.
Horses are used because their size and power are
naturally intimidating. Accomplishing a task involving the horse
helps some to overcome fears and develop confidence that often
applies when dealing with other intimidating and challenging
situations in life. Once they overcome these fears they can enjoy
the great fun horses can be.
Most importantly, horses have the ability to
mirror exactly what human body language is telling them. Many
children will complain, "The horse is stubborn" or "The
horse doesn’t like me." The lesson they learn is,
"when they change themselves, the horses respond in a more
positive way." During the camps, many children are involved in Equine
Integrated Behavioral Therapy sessions using horses to help them
learn about themselves and others. Activities with the horses are
designed to build self-esteem and confidence. The skills that many
troubled young people lack (non-verbal communication, honesty,
respect, and assertiveness) are the very ones that are required to
work with horses."
Most of our horses, tack, and supplies are
donated in large part by generous members of the Tennessee
Walking Horse Breeders & Exhibitors Association. Your
support is appreciated.

Christian Service Camp
August 9-14, 2009
Christian Service Camp is for young people who
are looking for a closer walk with Christ. During this camp an
experience is offered in the out-of-doors through dedicated
leadership guiding children to see the Creator through nature,
giving them the opportinity to form Christian attitudes and
behavioral patterns in group living, and letting them participate in
activities that develop mental, social, physical, but must of all,
spiritual capacities.
